Drug Lobby Success
A lobby of Parliament organised by the Bristol Drugs Project and Kerry McCarthy MP brought great success. The event was hosted at the House of Commons and speakers included BDP Chief
Executive, Maggie Telfer, Ben Bradshaw (Labour Health Minister) and Liam Fox (Tory MP). A commitment was made on the day to double the funding for drug treatment programmes in the Bristol
area over the next three years.
Paul Smith, who attended the lobby said, "This was a very well organised lobby with such compelling evidence of need that an announcement was made on the day that seems to have dealt with many of
the BDPs concerns. The increase in funding over the next three years will play an important role in helping people rebuild their lives following a period of addiction. We all know that
a large amount of crime in Bristol is committed to feed drug habits and this work should help reduce crime in the city. The cure is also a prevention. I take my hat off to the BDP for the work
they have done and i was honoured to be invited on their lobby"
