Mixed
developments of housing, leisure, retail and employment are being
planned on two important sites in inner city
Bristol.
Paul Smith
has been in touch with both developments to ensure that local
people gain from the developments.
Dove Lane
On Friday
25th July Paul met with Places for People group to
review the proposals for the development opposite Cabot
Circus. Paul said
“Places for people are working hard to ensure that the views of
local people are taken into account in this crucial
site. I am keen that
the development looks to St Pauls providing good quality jobs and
housing for the existing community. I believe that Places For People
is striving to meet the demands of the local community. The plans are still developing
and I am sure the dialogue with the community will
continue. I was
impressed that PfP are not a fly in and fly out developer but an
organization with a long term commitment to the area. As a housing association there
already provide 300 homes in the area and have their regional
office based in the area.”
Chocolate
Factory
The original
scheme for the Chocolate factory in Greenbank was rightly opposed
and defeated by local people. The new scheme makes far better
use of the building and the cycle path running alongside the
site. Paul Smith
attended the consultation event on Saturday 19th
July. Paul said “The
plans are very exciting and sensitive to the setting and existing
buildings. The idea
of a cycling theme to the site is made possible by the successful
campaign to oppose the running of buses on the
cyclepath. It is also
pleasing to see the developers making a commitment to give priority
for the sale of houses and flats to local
residents.”

These
developments are incredibly important to the communities where they
are being built. They
offer some hope in the current housing gloom. If you have views you want to
feed in please email Paul at info@bristolwestlabourparty.org.uk
