Get Involved!

How to get involved in Bristol politics:

There are lots of ways to get involved and do your bit to help secure Labour victories and help to campaign on key issues, both nationally and in the local community. With all-out council elections in Bristol in 2016 and a majority Conservative government in Westminster, we need a strong voice for Bristol West and our Labour values.

The best place to get involved is at ward level, our constituency is broken down into 10 electoral wards which are represented by one or two city councillors. In 2016, we have Labour candidates standing for each of this roles in each of our Bristol West wards.

At ward level, you can take part in and help to organise ward meetings, events and local canvassing sessions. It’s crucial that we get out and communicate with communities. Each ward has a Ward Organiser who communicates with local members, this is the best person to contact if you want to help out where you live:

Ashley: Chris Jenner (chrisjener57@yahoo.com)

Bishopston & Ashley Down: Phil Walsh (philip_walsh@btconnect.com)

Central: Jonathan Downing (jonathan.downing86@googlemail.com)

Clifton: TBC

Clifton Down: Richard Cove (rwcove@googlemail.com)

Cotham: Mark Whiley  (Mark will be working closely with Richard Cove as the Cotham and Clifton Down wards operate as a joint branch)

Easton: Alex Osborne (alexmordenosborne@gmail.com)

Hotwells & Harbourside: Peter Davey (rep_daveyuk@hotmail.com)

Lawrence Hill: Keith Mitchelmore (keithmitchelmore@btopenworld.com)

Redland: Matty Bacon (matt_bacon2009@hotmail.com.uk)

If you are unsure which ward you live in, contact our campaigns officer Andy Burkitt at andy_burkitt@hotmail.com

Want to get involved at constituency level? Our General Committee (GC) meetings are open to all members of the Bristol West Labour Party. This is generally held on the first Thursday of each month and will be posted on our events page. We usually hold our GC meetings at the King’s Centre in King Square, Bristol.

The GC is a great place to keep up with local campaigns and we usually have guest speakers present to talk about key local campaigns and issues. We really welcome ideas from members about what they would like to hear about or discuss at these meetings. Suggestions can be emailed to briswestlabour@gmail.com.

Once a year we hold our AGM at which members can put themselves forward to stand for one of the many support roles for the Bristol West Labour Party. These will be held every Summer.

We regularly run canvassing sessions and phone banks in the local area, which are a great way of meeting new people and supporting your local party. Throughout the year, there are also fundraising events taking place across the city.

Party membership is at its highest level for many years – we are lucky to have seen an influx of new members and skills. We have the numbers to become a really strong social movement and voice in Bristol and we would love to hear from you.

Hi, I am an NHS worker and I need the NHS to continue. It is the one thing we should be most proud about as a nation. Only Labour can protect this! X
